New WIN chair revealed

An organisation charged with supporting North East businesswomen has enlisted one of the region’s most successful female entrepreneurs to its helm as it looks to expand.

Women Into the Network, based in Gateshead, has also welcomed three new board members to its team ahead of its flagship annual event next month, the WIN Awards.

The group has appointed Nickie Gott, the driving force behind North East events management empire She’s Gott It! as the new chair of its board.

As well as running an internationally-successful events company, Ms Gott has long been an ambassador for women in business in the North East and has travelled the world championing their cause.

The networking and business support body has also brought in Wendy Parvin owner of Conversations with Purpose (CWP) as Vice Chair and Deborah McGargle a commercialisation consultant at BHP Law, Jenny Volkers managing director of Indigo Crow Creative Solutions and Natasha McDonough managing director of McDonough Marketing Communications to its board.

The appointments come as WIN prepares for its annual awards ceremony next month which celebrate women in business while showcasing some of the region’s most inspirational role models.

Ms Gott, whose impressive list of current and former clients includes City of Edinburgh Council, Nissan Motor Manufacturing and Arts Council England, said: “I am absolutely honoured to be appointed as chair of an organisation dedicated to supporting, connecting and promoting women in business.

“I am extremely passionate and determined to further develop, support and raise awareness of the role of women in business.

“In these difficult economic times I feel any support we can give in encouraging participation of women in enterprise is fundamental to economic development and job creation in the North East.”

Ms Gott has been a member of WIN since she launched her business almost a decade ago and, in 2007, was recognised by the organisation as the North East Entrepreneur of the year at its annual awards.

The WIN Awards 2010 take place on Friday 19 November at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead. For more information visit www.womenintothenetwork.co.uk/events
